Photo-crosslinkable chitosan/Pluronic hydrogels containing human recombinant epidermal growth factor for accelerated wound healing |

Thermo-sensitive hydrogels have been of interest because their unique property of a sol-gel transition in responses to temperature changes is potentially applied to stimuli-responsive DDS. In this study, a hydrogel composed of diacrylated Pluronic and glycidyl methacrylated chitooligosaccharide(COS) was employed for novel wound healing treatments. We investigated a release profile of rhEGF from photo-crosslinked Pluronic/COS hydrogel containing rhEGF. We examined release profile of rhEGF that related with mass erosion at different photo-irradiation times. Chitosan contents in the hydrogel increased mass erosion rates of the hydrogel, thus facilitating release of encapsulated rhEGF from the hydrogel. Released rhEGF showed decreased activities of keratinocytic differentiation compared to native rhEGF. In vivo study indicated that wound healing rates were accelerated in diabetic ulcers when Pluronic/COS hydrogels were administered. |
