With increasing plastic consumption, its recycling has been received wide attention for the preservation of resources and the protection of the environment. The depolymerization of poly methyl methacrylate(PMMA) in supercritical tetrahydrofuran(THF) was carried out in stainless steel autoclave reactor at temperature of 380∼480℃, pressure of 65∼105 bar, reaction time of 0∼60 min. The products mainly composed of MMA monomer, MMA dimer, buthylaldehyde, 3-methylbuthylaldehtde and 4-methyl-2,3-pentandiol were analyzed by GC(FID) and GC/MS. It was found that the degree of PMMA degradation was influenced by temperature, pressure and reaction time. The weight selectivity of the products could be controlled by varying these reaction conditions. Therefore, We employed supercritical THF as a reaction medium for the decomposition of PMMA expecting control of the product distribution.
