Polyhydroxyamides (PHAs) having poly(ethylene glycol)methyl ehter and/or dimethylphenoxy pendent groups were synthesized by a low-temperature polycondensation route. Here, the pendant groups were used for the purpose of enhancing solution processibility of polymers, but after being casted thin films were detacted via thermal treatments at 290 oC to obtain the same flame retardant characteristic as that for polyhydroxyamide. Since a certain type of free radical is expected to be produced on the process of the thermal treatments, we carried out electron magnetic resonance (EMR) measurements for them. Interestingly, a very similar EMR results to carbon foams were observed from the polyhydroxyamides with the pendant groups. And thus, we conjectured a porous morphology instead of the foam structure and traced, so that finally visualized by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). |
