The metal - catalyzed atom transfer radical addition is a highly efficient carboncarbon bond formin gradical reaction . Nowadays , this chemistry is widely applied for chain -growth radical polymerizations, referred as the metal-catalyzed living radical polymerization or atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Recently, we have found an other class of transition metal-catalyzed step-growth radical polymerization of the designed monomer, which has a reactive carbonhalogen bond and an unconjugated carboncarbon double bond in a single molecule. In this paper, I will present two unprecedented radical polymerization systems using this conceptually new radical polymerization. One is a novel strategy for preparing sequence-regulated vinyl copolymers consisting of styrene, acrylate, and vinyl chloride units by designing monomers prepared from common vinyl monomers as building blocks. In the other part, the simultaneous chain-and step-growth polymerization was investigated, i. e., the step-growth polymerization was simultaneously compatibilized with the chain-growth metal-catalyzed atom transfer polymerization . |
