Hyperbranched polymers have received much research attention because of their unique properties based on three-dimensional shape. Especially, hyperbranched polyamidoamine(PAMAM) which possess functional amine and amide groups can bind and separate heavy metal ions in aqueous solution. We developed a process to fabricate 50~300μm PAMAM particles by inverse suspension polymerization with N,N’-methylenebisacrylamide and ethylenediamine. In this study, scale-up of the polymerization was attempted to assess the commercial viability of the process. Detailed synthesis and characterization of the particles and their swelling ratio and metal ion absorption behavior will be presented. |
