A Study on Mechanical Interfacial Properties of Nickel-plated Pitch Fibers-reinforced Epoxy Matrix Composites |

Pitch fibers (PF) were electroless nickel (Ni)-plated chemically to enhance the mechanical properties of the Ni-PF-reinforced epoxy matrix composites. The surface properties of the Ni-plated PF (Ni-PF) were determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and contact angle measurements. The mechanical interfacial properties of Ni-PF-reinforced epoxy matrix composites (Ni-PF/epoxy) were assessed by interlaminar shear stress (ILSS) and critical stress internsity factor (KIC). The mechanical interfacial properties of Ni-PF/epoxy were enhanced compared to those of PF/epoxy. |
