A series of novel thermally stable, solution-processable and alternating well-defined copolymers of N- alkyl -3, 6 carbazole (alkyl=2-ethylhexyl, 2-ethylhexyloxyphenyl) and aniline have been synthesized in good yields via palladium catalyzed polycondensation polymerization, that is, poly [N-(2-ethylhexyl)-3, 6-dibromo- carbazole-alt- aniline], poly [N-(4-(2-ethylhexyloxy)phenyl)-3, 6-dibromom- carbazole– alt- aniline] and poly [bis(N-(4-(2- ethylhexyloxy)phenyl) carbazole- 3-yl) –alt-aniline]. All synthesized monomers used in the polymerization were determined by 1H and 13C NMR, and physical properties of all polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetry, UV-Vis absorption and photoluminescence. All of the polymers showed maximum UV-Vis absorption bands at about 300 nm in tetrahydrofuran solution, and exhibited maximum photoluminescence peaks in the blue emission range. The influence of numbers of carbazole units and types of substituents on the optical properties of the polymers has been investigated. Photoluminescence peaks of those copolymers are blue shift for the 2-ethylhexyloxyphenyl group in place of 2-ethylhexyl on N atom. In those polymers, triarylamine were formed, which can act as the hole-transporting portion. So, the structure of PLED could be further simplified by spinning-coating polymer solution possessing blue-emitting and hole-transporting dual functions into one layer. |
