Light-emitting polymers containing side-chain or main-chain carbazole units were synthesized by palladium-catalyzed polycondensation reactions of aniline with four different monomers such as N-(2-ethylhexyl)-3,6-dibromo-carbazole, 3,6-dibromo-carbazole,N-[4-(2-ethylhexyloxyl)-3,5-dibromomethylene-phenyl]-carbazole and N-(3,5-dibromomethylene-phenyl)-carbazole, respectively. It is expected from the polymer structure that these polymers have both blue emitting and good hole transporting properties. Synthesized polymers showed high solubility in common organic solvents, and exhibited relatively high molecular weights. Thermal stability of these polymers was studied by using DSC and TGA. From UV-Vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectra of these solution-processable carbazole-based polymers, λmax,UV was in the range of 308 – 325 nm and λmax,PL was in the blue emission range of 446 – 471 nm, depending on the polymer structurse. Effect of polymer structures on fluorescence properties will be further investigated. |
