Microporous layered silicate AMH-3 has a 3D ordered porous structure and abundant cations within framework. It was the first time that its properties were studied for applications in water treatment. Cations within AMH-3 framework can be exchanged with other cations. The compositions of AMH-3 were analyzed by ICP-AES and the theoretical ion exchange capacity was calculated to be 7.30 meq/g. Removal of various heavy metal ions (Pb, Cu, Cd) from aqueous solutions using the adsorption process on AMH-3 has been investigated. Batch method was employed to study the influential parameters such as metal ions concentration, contact time and initial pH of the solution on the adsorption process. Adsorption of metal ions to AMH-3 reached equilibrium in less than 60 min, and agreed well to the Langmuir adsorption model, exhibiting high adsorption capacity. Adsorption kinetics was elucidated by pseudo-second-order kinetic model. |
