Epoxy-foam adhesives based on epoxy composites, including rubber-modified epoxy, were prepared and evaluated for automotive application. A curing behavior of epoxy composites was estimated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The morphology of epoxy-foam adhesives was non-destructively characterized by micro X-ray computed tomography (micro X-ray CT). As rubber-modified epoxy was more added, the curing reaction was delayed so that expansion ratio was increased. Moreover, the rubber-modified epoxy has effects on lap shear strength and proper amount of it enables epoxy-foam adhesives to achieve high expansion ratio (340%) and maintain lap shear strength (20 MPa), simultaneously. |
