To fabricate the color-tunable smart polarizer with oxidation-reduction system, novel reactive molecule with perylenediimide core (RMP) is programmed and synthesized. Results of spectroscopic and microscopic analysis indicate that RMP form a self-assembled lyotropic chromonic liquid crystal (LCLC) structure induced by core stacking and ionic repulsion between RMP nanocolumns. The color-tunable smart polarizer is fabricated through mechanical shearing, 40 wt% H2O solution and photopolymerization. The smart polarizer not only can change the absorption bands in oxidation and reduction conditions, but also has high degree of polarization. The solvent test and hardness test proved mechanochemical stabilities of RMP polarizer. The feasibility of RMP smart polarizer was demonstrated by fabrication of color-tunable smart windows and anti-counterfeiting filter.
