제목 New way of living radical polymerization using visible light
초록 We demonstrated new polymerization method using visible light and the photo-redox catalyst fac-[Ir(ppy)3] (ppy=2-pyridylphenyl) which is already confirmed. And we synthesized other Ir catalysts in order to find out a way to synthesize styrene polymers which nobody succeeded in yet. New Ir catalysts have electro-withdrawing groups such as fluoride and tri-fluorocarbon on 2-pyridylphenyl ligands, which consequently increase oxidation/reduction potential of catalysts. High oxidation/reduction potential make initiation step more powerful and make propagation step better controllable. To confirm this feature, we conducted simple experiments about their characterization and did polymerization experiments with various monomers such as methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile, vinyl pyridine and styrene, etc.
