DSSCs are composed of dye molecules, nanocrystalline titanium dioxide, and electrolytes containing a redox couple and counter electrode. The oxidized dye is then regenerated by electron donation from an electrolyte solution, which normally contains the iodide (I-)/triiodide (I3-) couple. This catalyst is needed to reduce the voltage loss due to charge-transfer over potential at the counter electrode. A counter electrode with high electro-chemical activity is a very important factor in achieving a high DSSC Photoconversion efficiency, maintaining a large application area. In this study, a counter electrode of platinum-coated ZnO nanostructures on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) was used to increase the surface area of the counter electrode. The ZnO nanostructures possessing high electrochemical activity and large surface area were grown using the chemical bath deposition (CBD) method for various times. |
