Facile synthesis of silica-titania nano core shell structured particles with high photocatalytic activity |

We have studied the synthesis and applications of core-shell structured silica/titania particles starting from water glass (alkaline silicate) as silica precursor and titanium oxydichloride (TiOCl2) as titania precursor in economical point of view. First nano-sized silica particles with BET400 m2/g were prepared by the neutralization of water glass with acid and followed by reacted with TiOCl2 to give silica/titania core-shell structured particles. The prepared core-shell SiO2/TiO2 were calcinated to transfer amorphous TiO2 shell to anatase crystalline TiO2 shell between 500 and 800 ℃. Especially the crystalline phase of core-shell SiO2/TiO2 particles calcinated at 700 ℃ for 2h was the best one and its photocatalytic activity was higher than that of P25 for the degradation of methylene blue dye from aqueous solution under UV light irradiation. |
