Carbon dots (CDs) are the emerging fluorescent nanomaterials with attracting optical properties, excellent biocompatibility features and multifunctional characteristics. In this study, CDs were synthesized by one step hydrothermal synthesis using cucumber juice and functionalized with 4-MPBA (mercaptophenyl boronic acid) and GSH (glutathione). The as-prepared CDs have average size about 2-5 nm with strong blue color-emission. The optical properties, functional group studies and morphological analysis of the CDs were investigated through UV-Visible spectroscopy, PL, FT-IR, XPS, XRD, and TEM. A linear plot was constructed between the relative fluorescence intensity and concentration of dopamine. Further, CDs and functionalized CDs were extensively investigated for antibacterial applications. The PL intensity of the CDs and functionalized CDs was quenched in the presence of dopamine with the better sensitivity parameters. |
