Lewis acid doping in binary donor:acceptor blends can be a strategy to enhance the electrical properties and thus the performances of organic solar cells (OSCs) . In this work, we investigated the effect of a Lewis acid dopant, bis(pentafluorophenyl)zinc (BPFZn) on the OSC performance of the chemically available polymer:fullerene and polymer:non-fullerene systems. On both systems, an effective conversion of photon to electron was achieved as confirmed by external quantum efficiency (EQE) data. By applying 0.01 wt% BPFZn, EQE of the polymer:fullerene system increased from 63% without doping to 66%. As a result, the fullerene-based device efficiency increased from 7.7% to 8.7%. Similarly, adding 0.01 wt% BPFZn to the polymer:non-fullerene system increased the EQE from 59.4% for the undoped device to 72%. Consequently, the non-fullerene system efficiency enhanced from 9.6% to 12.1% without and with BPFZn doping, respectively. We believe that this contribution will foster to further dig out on tuning electronic characteristics of OSC devices by doping and thus boost the cell performances. |
