Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are characterized by their reasonable photovoltaic efficiency, low production cost, and non-vacuum fabrication process, and thus extensive research into the commercialization is being conducted. However, a potential problem in commercialization is the use of the corrosive, toxic, flammable and volatile liquid electrolytes, which is difficult to encapsulate for long-term stability in solar modules. By replacing the liquid electrolyte with a solid-state hole transporting material (HTM) in DSSCs, dye desorption can be prevented, and liquid leakage or evaporation cannot occur. In this study, we synthesized carbazole-based hole transporting oligomers, and they were applied as HTMs of solid state DSSCs. Solid state DSSCs with biscarbazole/aniline-, carbazole/aniline- and carbazole/aminophenylcarbazole-based oligomers showed power conversion efficiencies of 2.36%, 0.78% and 0.41%, respectively. |
