Synthesis of Polypyrrole Nanoparticles by Aqueous Dispersion Polymerization |

Nanostructured conducting polymers are an attractive class of materials due to their potential applications in molecular electronics and fabrication of nanodevices. In this study, we have investigated the preparation of nanoparticles of polypyrrole (PPY) by aqueous dispersion polymerization in the presence of a novel amino acid based water-soluble surfactant. An amino acid based polymeric stabilizer, poly(methacryloyl-β-alanine) (PMBA), was synthesized and used as stabilizer for the preparation of PPY nanoparticles in aqueous media. Spherical PPY nanoparticles having the size range of 100-200 nm were obtained by using 10-20 Wt % PMBA. It was found that the stabilizer architecture and concentration are the critical factors which play morphology and size of the PPY nanoparticles obtained. |
