Noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted much attention due to their localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties. Moreover, plasmonic coupling can be induced when two NPs are in close proximity. This interaction between proximal NPs can arrise new properties beyond single NPs. Hence, we synthesize two different NPs, i.e. Au and Ag NPs, in polystyrene-block-poly(acrylic acid), PS−PAA micelles, as a way to induce plasmonic coupling between two different NPs. Firstly, the surface of Au NPs were modified by Raman active ligand, then encapsulated the modified Au NPs in PS core using the method reported previously. Subsequently we synthesized Ag NPs in PAA corona by adding AgNO3 and hydroquinone. However, the resulting assemblies shows the inhibition of plasmonic coupling inside PS-PAA micelles. An important finding is that the resulting assemblies can provided multiple scattering which leads to SERS enhancement by orders of magnitude. |
