The desalination of seawater has become important as water scarcity became a serious problem worldwide. However, there is a problem that it usually consumes a very large amount of energy, which needs to be solved. Since hydrogels can provide solutions for desalination, distillation, and purification of water, various studies have been conducted. Here, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) is chosen since it has a lower critical solution temperature at 32 °C. This characteristic has a potential to absorb water at night and discharge water during the day. This study aims to make vertical hydrogel water channels for effective solar evaporator. We stack hydrogels up to maximize the amount of water transport and evaporation. Moreover, we adjust their pore sizes and structures to compare the water diffusion rate of hydrogels and figure out the best type of pore structure for efficient solar evaporator. |
