제목 Enhanced Stability of Organic Solar Cells by Effective Blocking of Oxygen Diffusion into Metal-Organic Interfaces
초록 We systematically investigated the O2 permeability of the aluminum (Al) top electrodes of organic solar cells (OSCs) and suggested a strategy to enhance the device stability by reducing oxidation of the Al-organic interface. O2 permeation through the Al electrode in an actual device was revealed to take place by diffusion of the molecules through numerous nanometer-sized open channels formed by incomplete packing of Al grains. Therefore, by controlling Al morphology and thickness, O2 permeation was greatly reduced and the stability of the OSCs was thereby increased. Besides, the O2 permeation showed the thickness dependence described by Fickian diffusion in narrow diffusion channels, which ensures the permeation of O2 dominated by diffusion through the channels. Our observations imply that the stability of OSCs in conventional architecture could greatly be enhanced by controlling only the fabrication of the Al top electrode, without the aid of additional secondary treatments.
