Sol-Gel Synthesis of Organic-Inorganic Hybrids ofModified Barium Titanate Nanoparticles withHigh Permittivity and Dielectric Strength |

Novel organic-inorganic hybrids containing barium titanate(BTO) nanoparticles was prepared by sol-gel processing method. In order to obtain better dispersion of the BTO particles, their surfaces were modified by Michaelis-Arbuzov reaction with diethyl 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl phosphonate. To synthesize organic-inorganic hybrids by sol-gel processing, modified BTO nanoparticles were mixed with 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate (ATMS) at 80oC under dry N2 condition. The viscous films of organic-inorganic hybrids were spin-coated and exposed to UV light for photo-polymerization and crosslinking of the unreacted C=C bonds of ATMS. The dielectric performance of these organic-inorganic nanohybrids was measured to show high permittivity and large dielectric strength, yielding a high energy-storage capacity. |
