STUDY ON THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF POLYETHERETHERKETONE/CONDUCTIVE FILLER COMPOSITES |

Thermal conductivity of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) with fillers was investigated. Thermal conductivity was increased to 4.8 W/m-K for hybrid filler (SiC+CFDKD) system, whereas that of CF and SiC were 3.0 W/m-K and 1.1 W/m-K at 40 vol%, respectively. The use of hybrid filler was found to be effective in increasing thermal conductivity of its composites due to formation of effective thermal conductive path. When fiber breakage is taken consideration, better agreement between experimental results of PEEK/CFDKD and values from Nielsen prediction was observed. Thermal conductivity of parallel and perpendicular direction for PEEK/CFK223 composites was 1.89 W/m-K and 0.64 W/m-K respectively. Mechanical properties of the injection-molded samples were determined using the universal testing machine. When SiC particles were added, tensile strength was decreased from 84.8 MPa to 74.9 MPa, whereas CFK223 reinforced PEEK composites was increased to 190.1 MPa. |
