The opportunity crude oil has been a promising solution to replace ground exploited crude oils. There are plenty of methods to remove acid constituents from opportunity crude oils including blending, neutralization, extraction and decarboxylation. From among these, extraction has the most effective economic results to remove acids by using diol solvents. However, the complex composition of crude oil and naphthenic acid makes difficult to process oils in laboratory tests. Therefore, it is important to choose an appropriate model oil and model acid to mimic the property of real crude oil and real naphthenic acid. The molecular interaction of these simplified components is investigated through screening by COSMO-RS and an appropriate EoS is chosen. An ASPENPLUS package that simulates a continuous process is made after the thermodynamic modeling was completed. As a result, the laboratory test results can be extended to real crudes and acids in order to be developed to a commercially meaningful level. |
