Among various nanomaterials for drug delivery applications, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have received great attention since they exhibit biocompatibility and low cytotoxicity, significant chemical inertness, famously mechanical stability, highly specific surface area and large pore volumes, tunable particle diameter, and facile surface functionalization. The surface of the silica was modified with carboxylic acid groups prior to loading with aminoboronic acid groups. Afterwards, the pores of the MSNs were capped by reacting with cellulose. The connection between the functionalized mesoporous silica and capping reagent are broken in neutral condition while it was stable in acid condition. Hence, the pH-triggered oral drug delivery system is possible to be used for the treatment of colon cancer and other colon diseases. |
