Wrinkled hydrogel film is useful for a wide range of applications including sensors, coatings and adhesives. In this study, we develop a strategy for designing hydrogel film with gradient crosslinking density by using reaction-diffusion process. We illuminate UV light through pinhole (<10 µm) array and let the oligomers and monomers diffuse throughout the entire area. As a result, a resulting film has the highest crosslinking density at the center of pinholes and the crosslinking density is gradually decreases as the distance from the pinhole increase. Gradient film is prepared by using pH-responsive hydrogels on either square or hexagonal pinhole array to evolve planar film with pre-described gradient patterns into 3-dimensional wrinkle patterns. Finally, we observe that yeast cells on wrinkled hydrogel film are grown followed by wrinkle patterns which can be used for positioning individual cells for bioapplications. |
