Recycled polyvinyl chloride(RPVC)-clay nanocomposites were prepared by conventional melt compounding of RPVC with organically modified clay. Thermal decomposition behaviors were evaluated by using thermogravimetric analysis and thermal stability was evaluated interms of the types and the amount of clay. The structures and morphologies of the nanocomposite were characterized by using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. Mechanical testing showed some improvement in mechanical properties of the nanocomposites compared to those of the RPVC without clay. From the experimental results, it is known that the improvement in thermal and mechanical properties of RPVC nanocomposites are keyed both to reinforcement and to stabilization. |
