Bone tissue is an organic and inorganic composite mainly composed of collagen and hydroxy apatite. The major elements of the inorganic phase of bone include calcium and phosphorus in addition to several other trace elements, such as magnesium, manganese, and strontium, etc. In this study, a composite inorganic particles with various ratios of composition of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus were prepared for the preparation of a bone substitute. Their physical and chemical properties were characterized. The morphology, surface charge, and size, atomic composition, and chemical state of the particles were evaluated by using scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, respectively. It was observed that the particle characteristics varied considerably depending on the amount of constituent metal ions. |
