Microencapsulation of phase-change materials (PCM) has been studied for application to thermal energy fields such as heating and air conditioning of buildings, thermal insulation materials, thermal adaptable fibers, etc. In this work, melamine-formaldehyde was used for encapsulation of octadecane. The pH of the reaction medium was varied form 4~10, F/M molar ratio 2.6~6 and NP-9. The functions and characteristics of microcapsules depend on the properties of the shell. So we can control the release and protection of the core materials by varying the characteristics of polymerized shell. The microcapsules containing octadecane showed a phase change of octadecane at 27~30℃. The encapsulation efficiency was measured by DSC and TGA. The synthesized microcapusules were confirmed in shape and size from optical microscopy, SEM, and particle size analyzer. |
