In this study, we introduced new plastic substrate based on norbornene. Norbornene is a bridged cyclic hydrocarbon. The molecule consists of a cyclohexene ring bridged with a methylene group in the para position. Polynorbornenes can be polymerized via ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) using well-defined vinylidene ruthenium catalysts, which is a living polymerization method that allows for a high degree of control over molecular weights. Especially, polynorbornenes show high optical clarity. We describe thermal, mechanical, and optical properties of polynorbornene dicarboximide substituted by monofluoromethlyphenyl group (MFMPhNDI) and difluoromethlyphenyl group (DMFPhNDI) and fluorophenyl group (FPhNDI). These materials could possibly be promising candidates as the substrate for flexible display. Also we characterized the polymers using GPC, TGA, DSC, WXRD, UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy. |
