Sulfur tolerance effects of Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ modified Sr0.92Y0.08Ti1-xNixO3-δ anode in solid oxide fuel cells |

Yttrium and nickel co-doped strontium titanium oxide, Sr0.92Y0.08Ti1-xNixO3-δ (SYTN), with perovskite structure has been investigated as an alternative anode material to utilize sulfur containing fuels for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). To improve the ionic conductivity of the Sr0.92Y0.08TiO3-δ (SYT) anode, Ni2+ was substituted by the B-site (initially occupied by Ti4+), thereby forming oxygen vacancies. Electrochemical characteristics of the SYTN anode were measured in the various conditions of H2S concentration (0 ~ 500 ppm). In addition, thin film (10~20 nm) of Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ (SDC) was coated on the anode pore wall surface with sol-gel coating method in order to enhance the sulfur tolerances of the SYTN anode. We monitored the sulphur poisoning process under a constant current (0.1 A•cm–2) for 100 h at various H2S concentrations. |
