Preparation and Characterization of Shape-Memory Polyurethane BilayersHaving Two Transitions |

Shape memory polymer bilayers having two transitions are investigated for the triple shape-properties. Bilayer polymers consist of two polyurethane nanocomposites of well-separated glass transition temperatures. The shape memory polymers have been synthesized by sol-gel reactions between the surface silanol groups of fumed silica and hydrolysed APTES-terminated PU prepolymers. The static/dynamic mechanical properties measured by DMTA and UTM showed that these properties have significantly been improved with increasing content of silica and cross-link density. With the addition of silica to PU, contact angle and hardness of the dispersion cast films were increased. DMTA result showed two glass transitions for bilayer polymers, where the transition temperatures were determined depending on the molecular parameters such as cross-link densities of each polymer. Bilayer polymers showed triple-shape memory properties. |
