Control of back electron transfer by surface modification of photoanode in TiO2-based solar cells |

The effects of nickel nitrate as a surface modifier on the back electron transfer between photoinjected electrons and electrolyte in dye-sensitized soar cells (DSSCs) were studied. Nickel nitrate-modified TiO2 electrodes (NN-TiO2/FTO) prepared by a soaking process were applied to the photoelectrodes of DSSCs. The reference device without any modification showed a performance of 0.714V of open-circuit voltage (Voc), 17.21 mA/cm2 of short-circuit current(Jsc), and 72.64% of fill factor (FF), which led to a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.93%, whereas for the device with the NN-TiO2/FTO electrode, the PCE was increased to 9.92%(Voc = 0.728 V, Jsc = 18.95 mA/cm2, and FF = 71.88%). |
