Developing stable and cost-effective adsorbents for the capture of heavy rare earth elements (HREEs) is a challenging issue. This study presents two novel benzyl phosphate-based porous organic polymers (BPOP-1 and BPOP-2) that were prepared by facile one-pot Friedel-Craft reactions. BPOP-1 exhibited superior adsorption capacities for HREEs due to higher phosphate content, while BPOP-2 showed faster adsorption kinetics due to higher mesoporosity. Remarkably, both BPOP materials showed among the highest HREE adsorption capacities reported, good selectivity of Dy3+ over other competitive cations, and excellent cyclic adsorption properties.AcknowledgementsThis work was supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) grants funded by the Korean government (MSIT) (2020R1A5A1019131, and 2022R1A2B5B02002577). |
