Thermally stable Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoroethylene) crystal lamellae ordered on PTFE substrates and their polarization characteristics in thin film capacitor |

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and its copolymers with trifluoroethylene (TrFE) have been of a great attention in virtue of mainly low cost processibility for their potential use in non-volatile polymer memory. The basic ferroelectric polymer storage element is metal/ferroelectric polymer/metal capacitor in which a ferroelectric polymer thin film sandwiched between metal electrodes. Here, we introduced an oriented PVDF-TrFE thin films processed onto oriented PTFE substrates in the ferroelectric polymer capacitor. Epitaxial growth of PVDF-TrFE on PTFE with frictionally rubbing method was characterized with Transmission Electron Microscopy and X-ray diffraction. We observed that the oriented lamellae PVDF-TrFE maintained their morphology even after high temperature annealing upto 200°C, which is above melting temperature. In order to see the effect of oriented film on its ferroelectricity, we fabricated polymer capacitor and measured polarization characteristics. |
