제목 Glassy Photonic Inks Encapsulated in Core-Shell Microcapsules for Drawing Local Electric Field Map
초록 Eccentric core-shell microcapsules containing photonic inks, which are composed of SiO2 nanoparticle solutions, are fabricated on microfluidic chips with a double-flow-focusing geometry. The microcapsules exhibit angle-independent reflection colors by forming glassy photonic structures when an electric field is applied. It is found that glassy photonic structures are formed by dielectrophoretic assembly of SiO2 nanoparticles in the microcapsules. Theoretical simulations demonstrate that the dielectrophoresis is dominant in the microcapsules because of the electric field gradient generated by the disproportional structure of the capsules. We demonstrate that photonic inks are highly useful to visualize and sense the electric field gradient by color. Electric field gradient between two arbitrary points can be measured by simply reading their hue distances.
