Improvement of Interfacial Properties of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composites by Adding Nano SiC Fillers |

SiC nano fillers were added into epoxy based composites. The interfacial properties were dependent upon the shapes of SiC nano fillers. To investigate the effects of different interfacial conditions, three conditions including beta, circle and whisker types were used. The electrical resistance was measured to evaluate the dispersion of different nano SiC-epoxy nanocomposites. FE-SEM was used to observe the interface changes of different nano SiC-epoxy nanocomposites, whereas mechanical damage was evaluated via fracture surface. Interfacial properties of carbon fiber and SiC nano composites were also evaluated by contact angle tests. The interfacial adhesion of circle and beta types nanocomposites were better than whisker type.
