Direct Oxidation of Methane in Ni/SDC Anode for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell |

SOFCs can operate directly with hydrocarbon fuel without the need of external reforming process.However, hydrocarbon has less electrochemical activity than hydrogen in conventional Ni/YSZ anode.Therefore, a better performance electrochemical catalyst for hydrocarbon oxidation is necessary for practical application purpose.In this study, a NiO (70wt%)/Sm0.2Ce0.8O1.9 anode was investigated for direct electrochemical oxidation ofCH4.YSZ (8 mol% yttria) electrolyte supported single cells with Ni/SDC and Ni/YSZ were investigated in H2 and CH4.Compared with the Ni/YSZ anode, the Ni/SDC was exhibited higherOCV and lower anode polarization resistance leading to higher performance.Degradation of the cell performance was much lower in Ni/SDC anode for long-term test. |
