Molecular Aggregation-Performance Relationship in the Design of Novel Cyclohexylethynyl End-Capped Quaterthiophene for Solution-processed Organic Transistors |

We report here the synthesis and characterization of the cyclohexylethynyl end-capped quaterthiophenes and investigated the performance of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) in view of the relationship between solid-state (or aggregate) order and electronic performance. The field-effect mobility of device that incorporated the H-aggregated molecule, CHE4T was quite high, above 0.03cm2/Vs, due to H-aggregation and good in-plane ordering, whereas the field-effect mobility of device that incorporated the J-aggregated molecules, BCHE4T was low, above 5X104 cm2/(Vs), due to J-aggregation and poor in-plane ordering. With two symmetrical and asymmetrical quaterthiophene derivatives, we elucidated that effect of the molecular aggregation-dependent packing stemmed from difference of cyclohexylethynyl end-groups on their OTFT performances. |
