Chiral plasmonic nanostructures has been received intense scientific attention due to their exceptional light-manipulating properties. However, the fabrication of chiral nanostructures is nontrivial, and it has been difficult to achieve such structures via colloidal synthesis. On the other hand, nature has remarkable ability to control the shape of inorganic material via specific adsorption of organic molecule. Inspired from nature, we developed organothiol assisted growth system which is capable to direct morphology development via unique interaction between Au and S. Using rationally designed ligand, we demonstrated novel morphologies with extraordinary optical properties. By changing configuration of ligand, we constructed plasmonic nanoparticle with strong optical activity at visible range. The nanoparticle showed outstanding Kuhn’s dissymmetry factor ~0.2. This strong optical activity enabled large optical rotation and direct visualization of macroscopic color modulation. |
