Cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB), a cellulose ester, is resistant to ultraviolet rays, and has lower moisture absorption, extremely high impact strength, and a relatively low glass transition temperature in comparison with other cellulose esters. However, CAB is susceptible to heat because of its low degradation temperature during the extrusion process. In this work, cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) were melt blended with an impact modifier, elastomeric ethylene terpolymer, using a twin screw extruder with the aim of improving the mechanical properties of CAB. The phase morphology, compatibility, thermal properties and mechanical properties of the CAB blends were examined by Field Emission Scanning Electronic Microscopy (FE-SEM), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), Themal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), a Universal Testing Machine (UTM), and a notched-Izod impact tester. |
