Reduction responsive microsphere composed of alginate, propylene sulfide, and calcium chloride |

Alginate-propylene sulfide (ALG-PS) were polymerized by ring opening. As a result, the thiol group was introduced into alginate. Quantitative analysis of the synthesized ALG-PS was analyzed through 1HNMR. The ALG-PS was crosslinked with the calcium chloride and microsphere was prepared by W/O emulsion method. The morphology of alginate-propylene sulfide-Ca2+ chloride (ALG-PS-Ca2+) microsphere was observed on scanning electron microscope. The qualitative analysis of sulfur content of ALG-PS-Ca2+ microsphere was examined by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The prepared ALG-PS-Ca2+ microsphere was added to dimethyl sulfoxide to oxidize the thiol group of the ALG-PS-Ca2+ microsphere to disulfide bond. This has led to the introduction of reduction-responsive properties in ALG-PS-Ca2+ microsphere. The formed disulfide bond of ALG-PS-Ca2+ microsphere was observed through the raman spectrometer. |
