Infrared wavelength lasers have attracted attention for protecting from accidental retina exposure by intense laser beam. For the eye-safe lasers, it is important to improve the thermal and mechanical stability of host materials for high power operation with outstanding optical performance. However, representative gain medium, including Y2O3 and YAG, have low thermal conductivity with increasing dopant concentration that it is difficult to achieve high output. In this study, we prepare an Er:Y2O3-MgO nanocomposite as a new candidate for host material. By limiting domain coalescence and eliminating of residual pores during sintering process, outstanding infrared transmittance can be achieved. In addition, for the gain medium, we also studied the spectroscopic analysis of the Y2O3-MgO nanocomposite as a laser gain medium. |
