Ozone gas can decompose the aromatic rings of some textile dyes, azo dyes and other organic pollutants in wastewater without generation of secondary wasted solid. Acid Red 114 (AR114) is azo dye and treatment of it by ozonation never been studied yet. In this study, removal of AR114 by ozonation was investigated and also had good results on AR114 dye removal in synthesized wastewater. By 50 min ozonation of synthetic wastewater containing 100 mg/L AR114 dye with operating conditions: gas flowrate 0.7 L/min; pH 7; temperature 20oC, the results show that color, dye and COD removal efficiencies obtained 95.9%(<32Pt-Co), 97.5%(<2.5mg/L)and79%(<16.5mg/L), respectively. The effect of pH, gas flowrate, temperature, initial dye concentration on the AR114 removal efficiencies were evaluated. They had a significant effect on COD, color and dye removal efficiencies. Reaction of AR114 with ozone followed to the second order rate law. Ozonation will be an alternative choice in treatment of wastewater containing AR114. |
