Metal-organic framework functionalized marine coatings |

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), are a class of crystalline inorganic-organic hybrid materials with high surface areas and are rapidly emerging as attractive materials. However the utility of MOFs in coatings, especially in marine coatings is less investigated. Here, we report the first study on silver MOF (Ag-MOF) functionalized acrylic coatings for marine coatings. A simple microwave technique was used to synthesize Ag-MOF. Morphological studies by SEM and TEM showed that Ag-MOFs have graphene like, two-dimensional platelet structure. FTIR and XPS were used to study their chemical properties whereas the crystallinity was measured by XRD and ED patterns. Incorporating Ag-MOFs into acrylate based marine coatings showed excellent results in sea water immersion tests. |
