Impact Behavior of A356-T6 Alloys for Automotive Alloy Wheels |

The impact tests were carried out for A356-T6 alloy samples taken from low pressure die-casted automotive wheels. Charpy mode was engaged and V-notched specimens were used for this experiment. Impact energies were evaluated as a function of temperature from -100°C to 200°C. Two types of alloy wheels, which are processed differently; center gate and side gate, were tested and compared each other. The results show that impact energy monotonically increased with increasing temperature and DBTT(ductile-brittle transition temperature) was not observed as in typical fcc materials. Fracture aspects were investigated using SEM and OM. Ductile fracture are overwhelmed over the test temperature range. Fibrous cell sizes were shown to be increased with increasing temperature. |
