Molecular imprinting has now been successfully applied to the creation of recognition site in synthetic polymers for a variety of small organic molecules, inorganic ions and even biological macromolecules. Molecular imprinted polymers were prepared from Methacrylic acid monomer and Retinoid derivatives as template, this imprinted polymers has been utilized as stationary phases for chromatographic separations of molecules. The retention time increased with an increasing ratio of monomer to template as more binding sites were statistically generated between host molecules and the template. The column capacity factor and selectivity were determined not only specific interactions such as hydrogen bonding but also a tailor-made spatial cavity were the main functions of the separation. Following that, metal ion imprinted polymer were also prepared by using novel monomer-Copper methacrylate and has been used in chromatographic separations of metal ions. |
