Recently, the market for electrically switchable optical device such as “smart window” based on polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) is ever-expanding. PDLC is a composite material composed of nematic liquid crystal (LC) droplets dispersed in a solid polymer matrix. Not only for use in window, PDLC can be used for architectural, automotive and screen applications due to its excellent optical properties, simple manufacturing process and long-term durability. In this study, we fabricated PDLC cells with various polymer matrix composition by UV-curing method which can obtain a PDLC directly between conductive indium tin oxide (ITO) film without additional procedures. The acrylate-based materials were mixed with E7 which is a nematic LC to prepare PDLCs having various refractive indices. Their electro-optical properties and morphology were evaluated. |
