Heavy metal sorption ability of poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers have attracted a lot of attention mainly because their abundant amine groups effectively facilitate heavy metal ions absorption/adsorption into the polymers. However, PAMAM dendrimer requires long and costly synthetic steps to obtain a desired molecular weight. Moreover, small dendrimers need to be treated with ultrafiltration for recovery. In this study, we carried out a simple synthesis of hyperbranched PAMAM (hPAMAM), which is an analogue of dendrimers, in the shape of particle by inverse suspension polymerization. With Oil-in-Water-in-Oil (O/W/O) suspension polymerization, porous PAMAM particles were obtained with controllable macropores. Copper (II) ion absorption test revealed that the synthesized hPAMAM particles are highly capable of metal ion absorption. |
