Photoelectrochemical solar cell based on dye-sensitized TiO2 has have impressive conversion efficiencies reaching around 11 %. However, the long-term durability of the cell is limited by the leakage or evaporation of the liquid electrolyte. To overcome this problem, an activation process in which a porous polymer membrane is soaked in an electrolyte solution has been investigated [1]. In our work, we prepared highly conductive gel polymer electrolyte by using the porous hybrid composite membrane containing ceramic material, SiO2. The hybrid composite membrane was prepared by coating gellable polymer and ceramic particles onto a porous polyolefin non-woven fabric mat. Gel polymer electrolyte was then prepared by soaking the porous membrane in electrolyte solution containing I-/I3- redox couple. In this work, we will report on enhanced performance of a dye-sensitized solar cell constructed with the gel polymer electrolyte using the porous hybrid composite membrane. |
